MISSION STATEMENT:
Yorkton Tribal Council Health and Social Development mandate is to secure and develop programs and initiatives for its’ membership based on identified needs. Health initiatives and services that are holistic and consider the mental, spiritual, emotional, physical and cultural aspects of the individual. We believe in empowering our membership to take the responsibility for their wellness.
Mental Health

The Mental Health Program provides services consistent with Health Canada’s First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) guidelines to the registered people within the six Member First Nations. We deliver short-term intervention services, crisis response following a traumatic event, debriefing circles, and personal counseling.

Resolution Health

The Resolution Health Program offers support services for persons who attended Indian Residential and Indian Day Schools. This includes physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and traditional support as well as facilitating access to any required services. 

Maternal Child Health

The Maternal Child Health (MCH) Program promotes a healthy lifestyle for expectant mothers and their families. We assist MCH home visitors in any way possible to achieve the best results for their families on the First Nations. We host workshops on topics like breastfeeding, solid foods, safe play, and safety issues in the home.

Addictions

The Addictions Program promotes awareness and education about addictions and addiction related issues by providing information, resources, networking, and support to the six member First Nation communities, band members, and associated service providers. 

Youth Outreach

The Youth Outreach Program provides support for the youth in the communities. The aim is to raise awareness about suicide and self harm and also provide informational workshops on any current pressing concern affecting youth in the member first nations.

Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP) and Brighter Futures Program

Together these programs support the health and nutrition of mothers and babies, as well as support healthy family and community environments. Services include cooking classes, community prenatal education, breastfeeding promotion and nutrition education for groups or individuals. 

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)

The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Program aims to provide awareness to the member First Nations on the risks of consuming control substances while pregnant. Workshops and presentations are hosted regularly, and educational resources are consistently being updated and shared.

Chronic Disease & Diabetes Education

The Chronic Disease and Diabetes Education Program aims to increase awareness of diabetes, its risk factors, and strategies to maintain health despite a diabetes diagnosis. The program offers education and support for other chronic diseases to support overall health as well. Health promotions workshops and cooking classes are offered as required. This program also works in collaboration with the Canadian Prenatal Nutrition and Brighter Futures programs.

Water Quality

The Water Quality Program monitors the water quality on First Nations on a weekly basis to ensure that the water is safe to drink and is free from coliforms and e.coli. 

Early Childhood

The Early Childhood Programs strive to instill in our First Nations’ children a sense of pride in their cultural and traditional beliefs. Through education and interaction, we promote the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, language and cultural aspects of the child’s self-esteem and sense of self.
